In addition to the general deregulatory push from the Trump Administration, there is a lot going on in Washington that impacts the securities industry, including the SEC’s proposed transaction fee pilot, the end of the tick size pilot, and the addition of Commissioner Robert Jackson, who appears prepared to shake up the markets. Speaking with TABB Group founder and research chairman Larry Tabb, Jim Toes, president and CEO, Security Traders Association, discusses Commissioner Jackson’s recent attack on for-profit exchanges’ power in the marketplace and the regulatory regime governing US exchanges, as well as the potential for regulatory reform and the STA’s role in facilitating the discussion. They explore the complexities of building effective market structure, the challenges faced by the access fee pilot, and the agenda and speakers for the STA’s upcoming annual conference.
They also discussed the upcoming STA Market Structure Conference, to be held in Washington, D.C. from October 3-5. It will play host to top names from a wide variety of top exchanges, regulators, vendors and buy- and sell-side firms. The deep roster of speakers and panelists includes TD Ameritrade CEO Tim Hockey, Cboe President Chris Concannon and Charlie Cook of the Cook Political Report.
