Analyst Hub, a New York-based independent “research infrastructure as a service” platform, recently announced that former sell-side analysts Gordon Johnson and James Bardowski have partnered with the firm to launch new independent research firm GLJ Research, a boutique equity research firm focused on identifying undervalued investment opportunities.
The focus of GLJ Research is to identify unique value opportunities across of a broad range of industries and sectors, providing in-depth coverage of companies in sectors as diverse as steel, iron ore, electric vehicles, solar energy, lithium ion production, cannabis, and others. The firm plans to make both long and short recommendations, targeting public companies that have been under researched. GLJ analysts will leverage their extensive network of contacts in the United States, China and globally, and will model company financials based on different metrics compared to analysts that rely on company executives and other traditional sources.
GLJ founder and CEO Gordon Johnson has more than 17 years of sell-side equity research and investment banking experience, covering a range of sectors including solar energy, semiconductors, healthcare distribution, medical devices, and financial institutions. Prior to launching GLJ, Johnson spent over 12 years as a research analyst at Axiom Capital and Managing Director at Vertical Group. Previously, Gordon spent more than 5 years as an analyst at Lehman Brothers, Bear Stearns and Credit Suisse First Boston. Johnson started his career on Wall Street as an investment banking analyst at JPMorgan Chase. Johnson graduated from Morehouse College with a Bachelors of Arts in Finance and Economics.
Founding partner James Bardowski will serve as GLJ’s chief investment officer, having spent more than 10 years on the sell-side in various research posts. Prior to launching GLJ, Bardowski spent more than 5 years working with Johnson at Vertical Group and Axiom Capital. Previously, Bardowski spent more than 5 years in key research and analysis positions at State Street, RJ Finlay, and Sidoti & Company. Bardowski graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management and from Suffolk University with a Master of Science in Finance.
