Financial-services professionals are known to have demanding work schedules, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t setting aside time to crack open a few books. We recently reached out to our contacts on Wall Street such as Scott Rosen of Visible Alpha to find out what folks would recommend as must-reads just ahead of the holiday season.

Surprisingly, most books recommended have nothing or little to do with finance and business, spanning topics from history to psychology.

Here are the 24 recommendations we received.

“Creativity, Inc.: Overcoming the Unseen Forces That Stand in the Way of True Inspiration” by Ed Catmull and Amy Wallace

"Creativity, Inc.: Overcoming the Unseen Forces That Stand in the Way of True Inspiration" by Ed Catmull and Amy Wallace

Wall Streeter: Adrian Facini, head of product at IEX

“‘Creativity, Inc.’ walks through the professional life of Ed Catmull from Lucasfilm to Pixar and finally Disney as he explains various methods and mental models used to deliver incredible output from each organization.

“When Catmull and Lasseter moved to Disney Animation, I was particularly impressed that they held onto their methods and implemented them with the Disney team. The way they were able to combine processes with inspiration is something that teams across industries can incorporate into their organizations.”

"The Challenger Launch Decision" by Diane Vaughan24. “The Challenger Launch Decision” by Diane Vaughan

Wall Streeter: Scott Rosen, CEO of Visible Alpha

“The Challenger Space Shuttle blew up just 73 seconds after launch, but Vaughan describes how the catastrophe was years in the making and resulted from an incremental descent into poor judgement driven by the monotony of organizational life. Rosen recommends this book as a classic study into inward focused environments where small issues grow big and no one recognizes them until it’s too late.”
